An event to bring the wine industry leaders together for a four-day convention, this year’s SommCon was organized in San Diego. During the 4 days with 50 sessions, 50 presenters and 500 wines tasted, as result of co-operation between the M Dash Group – Vinum Tokaj International LLC. – and the St. Tamás Winery, the Mád Furmint got a chance to be in the limelight of the „Digging In To Unique Terroir” session.
The panel featured representatives from unique appellations like Navarro, Spain; Alto Adige, Italy; and Tokaj, Hungary and taste the audience on two wines that best tell the story of each distinct terroir. Moderated by Eric Hemer, Master Sommelier, Master of Wine, Director of Education at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, the part on Tokaj wines with highlight on the Mád Furmint and Szent Tamás’ Szent Tamás Furmint was presented by István Szepsy Jr., the 18th generation winemaker of Szent Tamás Winery.
The first container of Mád Furmint 2015 just reached Los Angeles and based on the contract signed between Southern Glazer’s and Vinum Tokaj International LLC., it will become available on the US market starting with the 1st of December 2016.
With its gold medal from the New York World Wine and Spirits Competition, supported with the positive feedbacks and acknowledgements received from professionals during the conference, we are confident that it will be very well received by the American wine lovers, too.
The presentation deliverd by István Szepsy Jr. was a new step towards preparing our „Year of Furmint” campaign to be launched on January 1st, 2017.
